(Engelstalige column)
The week of prayer is significant because it fulfils scripture in that we are blessed when we dwell together in unity (Psalm 133) and the week of prayer is uniting us in purpose through prayer.
In John 17:21 Jesus prayed that we would all be one. Praying together brings us together in the unity of Christ.
I titled this “Now is the time” because the story of Joshua in chapter one is about when the children of Israel were about to cross over the river Jordan to inherent the land which God promise to give to Moses. The promise we have in this dispensation is not land but blessings in general.
Every great achievement begins with a dream. Whether it’s a personal aspiration, a professional goal, or a vision for a better future, dreams ignite our passion and set our spirits in motion. However, dreaming alone is not enough, the true challenge lies in transforming those dreams into tangible realities.
There is an unparalleled opportunity to take action, break free from limitations, and manifest the aspirations that reside within us. This is a call to embrace the present, harness our potential, and cultivate the determination needed to turn our visions into achievable outcomes.
The journey from dream to reality is often filled with obstacles and uncertainties, but it is also rich with growth, learning, and the joy of discovery.
Now is the time to take that first step. By committing to your dreams and taking decisive action, you can create a future that aligns with our deepest values and desires. This prayer week will unlock the potential within you and make an incredible transition from dreaming to doing.
Joshua 1:3-5
3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. 4 Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Verse 3 “He will give every place where you set your foot:
As God promised Joshua that every land he stepped into would be his, this signifies divine assurance that success and victory are guaranteed in every endeavor when aligned with God’s will. This means not that God gives us everything we pray for. Joshua stepped into the promised land. That is key. If we pray based on God’s promises, then we can compare this to stepping into promised land. We can pray with full expectation that God will answer our prayers, when we pray based on God’s word. In this week of prayer, let us base our prayers in the Word of God.
Verse 4 “Your territory will be expanded from desert to Lebanon:
Reflecting God’s promise to enlarge Joshua’s domain reminds us that our God is able to transition barrenness and limitation to abundance, emphasizing growth from a place of struggle to a place of fruitful abundance. The Netherlands is sometimes referred to by some as a country of ‘spiritual barrenness.’ Knowing that our God is able, let us seek for God’s promises of hope for this country. Let us come together in prayer to seek God for his Word of hope for this country.
Verse 5 “No one will be able to stop you:
This highlights divine empowerment and protection, assuring Joshua that opposition and enemies will be rendered powerless, and his divine purpose cannot be thwarted. Divine empowerment and protection are God’s gifts to us when we are walking in God’s will. God’s divine purpose for our lives cannot be thwarted, except for by our own disobedience. We do not need to fear that the enemy will stop us, but we need to realize that our own disobedience to God’s Word can slow us down or altogether stop us. To expect God’s empowerment over our walk in disobedience is misplaced. In the week of prayer, let us humble ourselves before God. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we can sharpen each other, as iron sharpens iron (Prov. 27:17)
As we come together as people of different nations and backgrounds in the week of prayer we are reflecting the unity of Christ. As we pray together and seek His will, we are believing God for answered prayers.
